Known as Tzuyang's the best sushi I've ever had I visited the popular Sadang sushi spot Chowabap!

We went here after work for dinner. We ordered the assorted sushi (12 pieces), and the temperature of the rice combined with the firm, chewy texture of the live-fish sashimi (emphasizes freshness) was just... incredibly delicious.

I'll go into the menu in a bit more detail in the menu section below!

📍 Location and atmosphere

Exit 10 of Sadang Station, then about a 3-minute walk, and you'll find Chowabap on the cozy and quaint second floor of a small building.

Ambience

The interior felt like a comfortable, home-style setting. There looked to be around 10 tables.

On a weekday evening it was generally quiet / not crowded. There were people who had come after hiking for a drink, and others who, like us, came after work for a meal.

If tables are combined (to make space for a group), you could probably accommodate a party of about 6–8 people.

🍣 Menu

The Chowabap menu is broadly organized as follows.

  • Sushi

  • Sashimi

  • Rice bowls

Assorted sushi

The assorted sushi is made up of 12 pieces including tuna, salmon, flounder, shrimp, octopus, and egg. The warm rice paired with the thick, chewy texture of the live-fish sashimi (emphasizes freshness) made it incredibly tasty.

Sashimi

While many people come for the sushi, they also offer a variety of sashimi options.

And the sashimi was surprisingly reasonably priced?! We didn't try it this time, but I thought it would be nice to come back later for sashimi and a drink!

Side dishes

At first they gave us pickled scallions and ginger, and a little later they also served a piping-hot udon served in a stone/clay pot!

I thought a bowl of udon alongside the sushi would be perfect, so I checked the menu, but they don't sell udon separately — it comes as a side dish. 😲

They also gave us two complimentary baek-kimchi nigiri (white kimchi topping on sushi) as a palate cleanser, and those were really tasty too. Sweet and tangy while also refreshing!

🅿️ Facilities

Parking

There doesn't appear to be dedicated parking. You should probably use the Sadang 1-dong public parking lot located toward Sadang Station Exit 11!

Restroom

The restroom is inside the restaurant and is separated for men and women!

Smoking room

There was no separate smoking room inside the restaurant. It definitely felt like a place where the food is the main focus!

Waiting (in line)

As of 6 PM on a weekday (Thursday), there was no waiting (in line). Out of about 10 tables in the restaurant, I think around 5 were occupied including us!

Chowabap, the Sadang spot that Tzuyang called the best sushi I've ever had! The moderately warm rice and the thick texture of the live-fish sashimi made for some truly delicious sushi. I definitely want to come back later for sashimi and drinks! 🙌
